Diesel Injector Malfunction Symptoms

Injector systems have been used in vehicles since the 90s. This system injects fuel into the cylinders. The operating system of the injector is the same/similar in every fuel type. Its task is to inject the fuel into the cylinders according to your driving style.

There are two main reasons why diesel injectors fail. The first is the failure of the injector due to its longevity or weak mechanical strength, and the second is that the use of poor quality fuel in the vehicle quickly spoils this part.

Diesel Injector Malfunction Symptoms

If the necessary maintenance is done to the diesel injectors and the vehicle is used as it should, these parts will not fail for tens of thousands of kilometers.

Diesel Injector Malfunction Symptoms

It should be noted that the ejector system used in old diesel vehicles and new generation diesel vehicles is different. The new generation diesel cars use common rail diesel injectors, which ignite two or three times per engine revolution, thus doubling the wear on the injector.

Diesel injector malfunction symptoms

Starting the car by starting several times, not at once: The repair kit valve of the injectors may be broken, it may be running late due to pressure loss in the returns.

Black smoke coming out of the exhaust or raw fuel smoke while idling: Raw fuel smoke is white in color and burns the eyes. Examine the circumference of the exhaust pipe so you can better track them. Check whether the stains there are new or if they were present in the past. In diesel vehicles, the variation in the exhaust gas may also be due to the clogging of the diesel particulate filter.

Car misfires at idle: If the injectors are faulty, it will wobble or misfire while idling.

Reduced traction of the car: Due to an injector failure, less fuel may be injected into the engine than it should. This can lead to a fall from traction.

Knocking in the engine: If the injectors do not make the timing of the injection well, if the injection process and piston movements are inappropriate, a knocking sound will be heard from the engine. If there is knocking in the engine, the problem may not be caused only by the injectors, it may be a sensor failure or a common rail pump failure.

Change in engine sound: If the engine sound changes little by little over time, the driver may not be able to understand it. It is difficult to perceive this differentiation. If the vehicle started to work late, if there are complaints such as shaking in the vehicle, the driver should listen to the engine sound more carefully. These are signs of injector failure.

Increase in fuel consumption: There may be an increase in fuel consumption or a decrease in performance.

How to detect diesel injector failure?

For this, the vehicle must be connected to the computer. People who specialize in the repair of diesel vehicles can understand this from the sound of the vehicle without connecting it to a computer.
