In order for the internal combustion engine in vehicles to work, the fuel and oxygen must come together in an appropriate ratio. The intake manifold in automobiles is a system that adjusts and distributes the oxygen necessary for the combustion of fuel to the cylinders.
The combustion process in the engine takes place in four stages:
During the first stroke (intake), the air in the intake manifold is sucked into each cylinder by a valve or valve. These intake valves then close for the other three strokes (compression, combustion and exhaust) and open again when the cycle starts over. The part that provides enough air for each intake stroke when the valve is opened and distributes oxygen equally to each cylinder is the intake manifold.
What kind of malfunctions can be related to the intake manifold?
The intake manifold may be leaking air, the gasket may be worn or it may be cracked. If the intake manifold is cracked, it needs to be replaced. If the gasket is worn, it is sufficient to replace the gasket.
Intake manifold malfunction symptoms
If there is a leak in the intake manifold, the fuel/oxygen mixture will increase in favor of oxygen as more air will enter. This means a decrease in combustion efficiency. As a result of this;
- When you press the gas pedal, it will react later than before,
- The acceleration time will be delayed,
- There will be whistling, hissing, squeaking sounds from the engine,
- The vehicle may stop at low speed,
- When you turn off the ignition of your vehicle, the stopping time of the engine will increase,
How to detect an intake manifold failure?
Malfunctions related to the intake manifold are not very common. Therefore, if your engine is whistling or if your vehicle is experiencing acceleration problems, it cannot be said that there is a manifold malfunction for sure.
To detect the malfunction, you can visually and physically check the intake manifold for a crack. To check for a leak in the gasket, spray the gasket (or any other place where you may have a leak) with starter fluid while the engine is idling. If the engine reacts to this when you spray the fluid, you have a leak or leak.
On some vehicles, the intake manifold is also used as the coolant channel. Five minutes after parking the vehicle, check whether coolant has spilled on the ground. If there is liquid on the floor, it means there is a leak.
Does manifold leak affect fuel?
The intake manifold will affect both fuel consumption and vehicle performance.
How much is manifold repair?
The intake manifold part of each make and model is sold at a different price. If it is necessary to define a general price, 70-80 TL will be spent for gasket replacement and 500 TL will be incurred for the replacement of the intake manifold, including labor.
Is the manifold a weld?
There are those who try a temporary solution with welding, but it is more correct to change the part.
