When there is a malfunction related to the fuel system in Renault vehicles with diesel fuel, the DF885 fault code is received. In order for the diesel fuel to travel from the tank to the combustion chamber smoothly, many parts, sensors and electrical circuits are used. When there is a problem with any of these parts, combustion does not occur properly and there are problems related to the operation of the engine.
Since the DF885 fault code is related to the rail pressure, it is necessary to look for the source of this error in the rail pipe, that is, the fuel line and the parts.
Possible problems with the vehicle with the Renault fault code DF885:
- The motor does not start, it works for a long time
- Experiencing problems stopping the vehicle
- Exhaust fumes are different from normal. (Darkening, white smoke, blue smoke problems)
- Irregularity in the operation of the engine, idling
- Significant increase in fuel expenditure
- Inability to reach high speed, fainting on the ramp
Brief description of DF885 fault code: Rail pressure
The so-called rail is the fuel line of the common rail system used in most diesel vehicles. In order for the diesel to burn, it must reach a high pressure and this high pressure must be kept regular according to the ECU instructions.
When the suction pump draws fuel from the tank, any impurities and moisture in the fuel, if any, are attached to the fuel filter. The pressure of the diesel fuel, the pressure of which is regulated by the fuel pressure regulator in the fuel line, is monitored by the diesel pressure customer.
The fuel injectors are connected to the fuel line separately and the pressurized fuel is sprayed into the cylinders through the injectors and combustion takes place.
Causes of DF885 fault code:
- The common problem in this regard is that the pressure of the diesel supplied to the fuel line decreases due to the blockage of the fuel filter.
- The inefficiency or failure of the diesel pump to fuel pressure can also cause the DF885 fault code.
- The diesel pressure switch monitors the fuel pressure and sends it to the ECU. The diesel pressure switch may be contaminated, damaged, the cables may be dislodged, the electrical circuit may be faulty, or it may not receive electricity at the required voltage.
- The fuel pressure regulator has malfunctioned, it may be leaking.
- There may be a leak in the fuel line or hose.
DF885 Renault fault code solution
Problems related to the fuel system are commonly caused due to the use of dirty or uncalibrated diesel fuel or due to the delay of periodic maintenance of the vehicle.
Some fuel stations in our country sell illegal, low caliber, dirty diesel fuel to their customers under the name of cheap fuel. Dirty fuel quickly pollutes the fuel filter, as well as damages the diesel pump and fuel injectors, leading to contamination of the fuel tank.
Water accumulates in the diesel filter over time, and this water must be drained from time to time. If the work of draining the water is neglected, it damages the fuel pump and injectors.
These considerations are common reasons for a malfunction in the fuel system.
When the DF885 fault code is received, the complaints experienced in the vehicle are also taken into account, first of all, whether the fuel filter is clogged, whether there is water accumulation, whether the fuel pump is intact, and if necessary, a change is made.
If these are intact, there may be customer failure or the fuel pressure regulator may be leaking. These are checked. If necessary, change is made.
